About Helpdesk V2.8

New in August 2002, version 2.8 is based on a Microsoft SQL Server database, and is therefore capable of higher performance than version 2.7. The feature set of the two versions is otherwise identical. Further development work on Helpdesk will take place on version 2.8.

Version 2.8 requires a server with MS SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 2000 running on NT Server or Windows 2000 (Pro or Server), as well as IIS 4 (on NT Server) or IIS 5 (on Windows 2000 Pro or Server).

Full install set

Now you can download the evaluation version of Helpdesk V2.8. This is a full version of the system (excluding the escalation component), with some of the features locked. The full capabilities of Helpdesk can be used as soon as you enter the registration key that you will receive from Intexnet after registration and payment.

After downloading, unzip the zip file to a folder on your hard disk. Double click setup.exe to start the installation. You will need zip software such as Winzip (1.2MB) to do this.

To begin the installation, double click the file named Autorun.exe, located in the "Helpdesk 2.8S Install" folder.

If you are interested in Intexnet Helpdesk, but choose not to install the evaluation version, you can download only Helpdesk's help files. Browsing through this documentation will allow you to explore all the features of Helpdesk. The help files are simply copied to your hard disk, nothing needs to be installed.

If you would prefer not to download the help files, you can read the Helpdesk documentation online here. (Non-Windows and Netscape users: sorry, the documentation uses certain features which require Windows and Internet Explorer)

To download the documentation for local viewing, follow these simple steps:

  1. Download the file UserGuide.zip
  2. Unzip the contents to an empty folder
  3. Double click on default.htm

Requirements

Helpdesk requires Windows NT 4 (SP6) with IIS 4, or Windows 2000 with IIS 5. PWS running on Windows 9x or Windows NT Workstation is not supported.

Version 2.8 also requires a server with MS SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 2000 running on NT Server or Windows 2000 (Pro or Server), as well as IIS 4 (on NT Server) or IIS 5 (on Windows 2000 Pro or Server). This may be the same server as the web server, or it may be on a different server in the same domain.

Removing Helpdesk

Helpdesk can be removed using the control panel Add/Remove programs applet. The removal process may leave the Helpdesk folder and DLL file behind. These can be removed manually after the web server is stopped and restarted (or the computer is shut down).

The database will need to be manually removed from the database server by deleting the database from the SQL Server Enterprise Manager or by detaching the database from the server using Enterprise Manager or Query Analyser.
